Applying Redesign Décor Transfers is truly child's play. We explain how it works below.
STEP 1
Prepare the surface where you want to apply the transfer. Sand it smooth if necessary and ensure the surface is free of dust and grease.
STEP 2
Determine exactly where you want the transfer and cut out specific pieces if necessary. Do not remove the protective backing yet and be careful that no parts of the transfer stick to places where you do not want them to. It is then difficult—almost impossible, in fact—to remove it.
Especially when you are cutting out pieces of the transfer and want to stick them next to or over each other, it is useful to attach the cut-out pieces, with the protective backing still on, to your furniture using some painter's tape. This way, you get a good overview of your own design and can keep building your "puzzle."
You can layer different pieces of the transfer on top of each other. In places where the drawings overlap, the bottom drawing will no longer be visible. When you let pieces partially overlap, you create more depth in the design.
STEP 3
Once you are happy with where you want each piece or the entire transfer to be, remove the pieces held by painter's tape. Remove the protective backing one by one and then apply the transfer to the desired spots with the adhesive side facing down. Try to do this as straight and taut as possible so that you do not create any bubbles.
STEP 4
Using the included stick, rub the transfer onto the piece of furniture. Place the stick with the long side upright, at an angle of approximately 45 degrees, on the back of the transfer. Through the rubbing and pressure of the stick, the image will gradually transfer from the film to the furniture. The principle is just like that of a temporary tattoo.
It is easiest to work slowly from left to right, or vice versa. Each time you have done a small section, gently pull the backing film upwards to see if the design has transferred well. If not, lay the film back over the design and rub further with the stick. This way, you gradually work your way to the right until the image is completely transferred.
And you're done...!
