These silicone moulds from Redesign with Prima are also known as "decor moulds".

The designs in the moulds are cut out in great detail, allowing you to cast delicate figures and ornaments. Because the moulds are made from flexible silicone rubber, they can be used again and again. Their flexibility makes it easy to remove your cast once it has cured.

It’s good to know that these silicone moulds are both cold- and heat-resistant. They’re also made from food-safe material, so you can use them to cast chocolate too. However, we recommend keeping the moulds you use in your kitchen separate from those used with epoxy or clay. As well as decorating your baked goods or furniture, you can also use these moulds to cast soap. Finally, since they can withstand temperatures of up to 500 degrees Celsius, they’re also suitable for ceramic clay.

Below, we’ll explain how to use the silicone moulds.

STEP 1

Make sure the moulds are clean and dry before using them. You can spray some WD-40 or rub a little oil into the mould to make it easier to remove the cast pieces once they have cured. Some people also like to dust them with a little cornflour.

STEP 2

Pour your chosen material into the mould (epoxy, clay,, casting resin,...). Pop any air bubbles with a toothpick.

STEP 3

Leave your cast to cure completely, following the instructions on the packaging. Remove the design from the mould once it has fully cured.

STEP 4

If you want to use the design on a piece of furniture, first make sure the surface you want to apply it to is free of grease and dust, and is dry.

Glue the appliqué in place with some wood glue. If you’ve used epoxy, you can make the cast design slightly flexible by warming it with a hairdryer. This allows the appliqué to follow the curves of the furniture neatly.

Place some weight on the appliqués while the glue dries, or use clamps or tape to hold them flat against the surface as they dry. Let the glue dry completely.

STEP 5

You can now paint the appliqués any colour you like. You can paint them before or after gluing them to a surface. You can use regular wax to protect the paint and, if you like, apply some gilding wax for a glamorous look.

And you’re all done...!
